With the increasing integration level and fineness in Printed Circuit Board(PCB), the design complexity and workload is also increased. More and more sophisticated examination items before the board manufactured, which are time and labor consuming, make Computer Aided Design(CAD) more and more important. Despite of their own advantages in examination function, all different PCB design softwares have shortcomings and are not compatible with each other. The current situation makes it urgent to study the compatibility and automated examination function of PCB.Our research mainly focuses on the automated Design Rules Check(DRC) of PCB. First, based on the requirement of the research, the overall design is elaborated and the relevant function modules are analyzed. And we illuminate the idea of computer graphics used in mathematical modeling and computation of PCB. Second, on the basis of requirements analysis of PCB design rules, we inspect, verify and summarise various design rules involved in actual design, and transform the design experience into actual rules, and quantify the various rules. Then, we elaborate and analyze the implementations and algorithm processes in software. Based on the above research, we have developed the DRC module of the PCB Layout Verification Software(PLV) to check design rules of the drew or imported PCB file and obtain the unexpected errors that are against to design requirements. Finally, the test and verification experiments results of the related modules are shown. Compared with the existing softwares, the proposed PLV has obvious advantages over others in DRC and greatly improves the design efficiency.From the research in this paper, it can be observed that DRC in PCB design shows a promising future and is very necessary in practical engineering design. Since the function in DRC developed in this paper is based on practical requirements and oriented to practical application, thus it has great engineering value. Compared with the examination function of other softwares, it achieves a good performance in examination and improves the design efficiency. Hence, it is of great significance in engineering design.
