| In recent years, with the continuous development of scientific research career, most of the countries and regions in the world utilize citation database for performance evaluation of scientific research. The method of citation analysis reflects scholars’attention to a research field in some degree. Besides, citations also show the degree of being used and paid attention to a paper in the researching process, as well as its role in the academic communication. Web of Science (WoS), Essential Science Indicators (ESI), InCites, Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Scopus are the most common Citation analysis tools. In our study, citation analysis tools ESI and InCites database were used for statistical analysis of the scientific outputs in our country, which were developed by the Thomson Reuters science and technology information group. ESI database was used to analyze the research dynamic and scientific research strength of top 50 countries and regions which have published most papers. The international status of 22 subjects in China:Material science is in the first place; Computer science, engineering, environmental and ecology science, earth science, mathematics, microbiology, molecular biology and genetics, multidisciplinary, pharmacology and toxicology, physics, botany and animal science etc. are in the second place; Agricultural science is in the third place; Immunology is in the fifth place; Biology and biochemistry are in the sixth place; Economics and business, neural science and the Behavioral Sciences are in the seventh place; social science and space science are in the eighth place; Chemistry are in the ninth place; Psychiatry and psychology are in the tenth place. ESI database was used to analyze Chinese institutions which were ranked in the top 500 each discipline. The result showed that there were 116 Chinese institutions in the top 500 institutions. There were 21 disciplines for Chinese Academy of Sciences which has the most fields included by ESI database. There are 411 hot papers published by China in ESI database and 278 papers published by Chinese institution as the first institution. To learn about the latest scientific findings and research trend we analyzed the distributions of institutions, regions, disciplines and journals et al among Chinese hot papers. The British academic evaluation subject classification in InCites database was used to analyze the Chinese international status of 35 subjects by comparing the scientific strength of the first 50 countries published the most papers. Chemistry is in the first place; Biological science, agriculture, earth science and environmental science, physics, materials science, computer science and informatics, chemistry and manufacturing engineering, metallurgy and materials, construction engineering disciplines are in the second place; Comprehensive health care, construction environment and planning are in the third place, business management study is in the fourth place; Geography and archaeology are in the fifth place, Area studies ranks sixth, Clinical medicine and public health rank seventh, Culture and media studies is in eighth, Physical education and related research, English language and literature rank ninth; Psychiatry and Neuroscience, economics and econometric list 11th; Law and anthropological study rank 12th; Education and modern linguistics are at 14th, Theology and religious studies, art and design are in 15th, Politics and international studies, social work and social policy, sociology, philosophy, and other disciplines rank 16th; Historical areas rank 18th; Classical literature and music and drama rank 19th. Through the InCites database, the scientific research levels of Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are analyzed. According to the number of papers, Chinese mainland has published 12657094 papers and ranked first, followed by Taiwan which published 2771614 papers, Hong Kong published 1595584 papers, and Macau published 4245 papers. According to the citations, Hong Kong ranked first as 11.23, followed by Taiwan as 8.26, Chinese mainland 7.49 and Macau 5.92, which suggested there is no much advantages in number of high quality paper. Combining ESI with InCites database, we confirmed the advantaged disciplines of 985 colleges and predicted the possible disciplines included by ESI database in the future. |
