In recent years, cloud computing method develops rapidly in the field of library and information, which contributes the growth of various Knowledge Discovery platforms. However, it is hard to share and synchronize data between these platforms and universities immediately due to the heterogeneity of the data. Most of the data synchronization and sharing is still implemented manually. Therefore, a safe and service-oriented data exchange system should be developed for more efficient exchange of the data between heterogeneous platforms.In the thesis, the data exchange between the library of Southwest Jiaotong University and various platforms is addressed. Using the automatic database of the library of Southwest Jiaotong University, a heterogeneous data exchange system for universities (HDEU system) based on Web Services is designed and implemented. By the system, the data between the library of Southwest Jiaotong University and platforms can be exchanged on-demand efficiently. One can also take reference from the system for the heterogeneous data exchange among other platforms such as the China Library Association.The research on the heterogeneous data exchange based on Web Services is reviewed. The structure of Web Services and its key techniques, XML, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI, are introduced. Afterwards, the scheme and key parts of the HDEU system are discussed.1) The principle of the system is based on SOA; 2) the system is implemented using techniques based on Web Services; 3) a star network is chosen to be the topology of the system; and 4) the system has three layers including data layer, business logic layer, and presentation layer. Following the scheme, the whole HDEU system is implemented. The key function modules of the system for data conversion, Web Services publish, data transportation, etc., are discussed in detail. The setting of the management module related to the data security is also introduced briefly. Finally, the HDEU system is tested using real data exchange cases and the test results show that the HDEU system developed in this thesis is reliable and effective for the data exchange between heterogeneous platforms.
