With the development of Chinese television market so far, countless excellent TV programs emerge. The way of contests present on television screens has also been widely used in various kinds of programs, such as knowledge contests, sporting events, games, quyi contest. One of the most enduring program attracting the audience’s attention and triggering public participation and social discussion is still the singing competition show. Any program does trigger social discussion from young singer competition shown on CCTV in 1984 to the music variety show of the 1990 s,to "Super Girl", a groundbreaking civilian talent show in 2005 and then to “The Voice of China” and "I am a Singer" again very well received on today’s screen. Strong performers out of many of these programs have become bright stars in the Chinese pop music circle. Singers released or made by singing competition shows on TV make continuous innovation in China TV market, Chinese music industry and Chinese pop music circles. At the same time when the original structure and development direction are thus changed, a new vitality is also injected.With the development of the singing competition show on TV, it becomes the best stage to realize dreams for those embracing music dreams and star dreams.Television station, record companies and entertainment companies also see it as a cradle of stars tomorrow. With ongoing reform and development of formats of the singing competition shows, the players out of the shows are also changing. The change is derived from the evolution of star-making mode in the show. The development of the singing competition shows and the evolution of star-making mode are complementary to each other. Its change process, reasons and the rules deduced are the purpose and meaning of this paper.Through sorting out the historical development of the singing competition shows on TV, the show and the evolution of star-making mode can be divided into earlier and later period to make contrastive analysis. Several periods at earlier stages are the birth of singing competition show on TV(1984 ~ 1991), contract system “testing the water” in the singing competition show on TV(1992 ~ 1998) and another form of the singing competition show on TV-- "imitation show"(1999 ~ 2003). The later period is divided as "entertainment" blossom of TV singing competition show(2004 ~ 2011)and "voice" back to TV singing competition show(2012 – so far). "Super Girl", a groundbreaking civilian talent show in 2005 between earlier and later period is a watershed. The differences between the overall characteristics of star-making modesbetween earlier and later period are mainly embodied in two aspects: the building of the program itself and the rebuilding after the program. In terms of the building of the program itself, the difference between earlier and later period is that attention is paid to "selection" and "show". The aim of the two programs also directly contributes to the differences in program planning, schedule set, star standard, characteristics. In terms of the rebuilding after the program, the difference mainly lies in the Spring Festival gala, media building and media packed in contract system, the public and singers together. In regard to respective reflection of star-making mode in earlier and later period of the singing competition shows on TV, I made a contrastive analysis from the perspectives of the selection of objects, criteria of star, narrative comparison of shows, manufacturing and guide of public opinions of media stars, the fan effect behind "star". After the contrastive analysis, the three main reasons of the revolution of star-making mode in TV singing competition shows can be concluded: the change of social environment, the change of communication context and audience’s psychological change. Thus, the historical development and star-making mode are sorted out. Contrastive analysis of shows during earlier and later period and of star-making modes is made. The main reason for the changes is integrated. It can be inferred that rules of the evolution is that the single control mode at the early stage and the absolute control of the media over discourse power are changed to multiple function mode, the media and the stars and the audience’s share in discourse power at later stage.In the current environment of the singing competition shows on TV in China,television people, media personality and the general audience included gradually confuse "mass entertainment" with "music art". It not only makes such an art as music in an awkward situation, but also leads the audience to lose themselves under the bright appearance of entertainment. How the singing competition shows on TV keep balance between "entertainment" and "art", high audience rating and high aesthetic value, professional singer and idol singer with more scientific and reasonable integration rather than random mixture should be the problems pondered on by media people and the development direction of the program.
