Hardware Trojans are redundant circuits implanted in Integrated Circuits, onceactivated under certain conditions, it would bring about serious consequences likechip failure or information leaks. Hardware Trojans which seriously threaten the chipsecurity can be implanted in the circuits from any link of IC designing andmanufacturing. Hardware Trojans detection is becoming a worldwide concern for itsserious threat to chip security.In this paper, studies about side channel analysis based on power consumptionand electromagnetism are carried out. Firstly, target circuits for Hardware Trojansbased on combinational and sequential logic are designed, a method for thecombinational Trojans’ implantation in the ISCAS’89benchmark s713is presented.And an advanced framework to lengthen the sequential Trojan’s activation time for IPprotection is proposed. The experimental results based on Advanced EncryptionStandard algorithm circuit prove the effectivity of the method. The simulation resultsdemonstrate that the improved framework can effectively lengthen the activation timeof the inserted Trojan by120times and simultaneously reduce the design overhead by0.123%.Then Trojan detection platform based on FPGA is designed and implemented.Validation and optimization of the platform including noise reduction and small signalextraction are presented. The detection flow of Hardware Trojans is designed. Finallydata processing algorithm based on side channel analysis especially for PCAalgorithm is studied. The electromagnetic model is built by collecting side channelinformation of the target circuits based on sequential Trojans. The experimentalresults show that the PCA algorithm can effectively detect the Trojan circuits whichaccount for more than4%of the total circuit area based on the Trojan detectionplatform which is proposed in this paper.
