Rotary kiln is an important device in modern industrial production. Itsmechanical running condition is crucial to production. Measurement and monitoringof a rotary kiln’s running condition is of great significance to its maintenance andfailure-free operation. In particular, measurement of bending of a rotary kiln canaffect the service life of the lining bricks inside the rotary kiln, stress and abrasion onsupporting rollers and tyres and abrasion on driving gears; measurement of surfacedeformation of the kiln shell can directly reflect the accordance between inside liningbricks and can directly influence the accuracy of axis measurement.Shell deformation and surface deformation of the rotary kiln measurement if ofgreat significance in industrial production. We proposed a measuring method andreconstruct the geometric three dimensional model of the kiln shell in this research.The main tasks we have done in this research are as following:(1) We analysis the mechanical properties of rotary kiln shell deformation andsurface deformations and proposed a measurement method of it. We choose the laserrange sensor to measure the distance of the cylinder surface changes, and analysis thedata to separate the two parameters.(2) We used least-squares circle algorithm to fit the measured data, calculate therotary horizontal and vertical offset distance as well as the overall bias by thealgorithm and program the data processing programming based on Matlab. Based onthe result, we analysis the effects of radius to the eccentric distance. Finally, we givesthe trend chart of the overall sections deformation which provides a theoretical basisfor three-dimension reconstruction model of rotary kiln.(3)We proposed a method to reconstruct the three dimensional of rotary kiln. Theprocedures are as follows: firstly, preprocess the data collected by changing thedisplacement data into spatial coordinate data. And the use of least-squares circlefitting algorithm of spatial coordinate data in order to separate the bendingdeformation of the cylinder. Secondly, import the preprocessing of data in a threedimensional reconstruction software, and reconstruct model of rotary kiln byDelaunay Triangulation algorithm. Thirdly, amend the three dimensional models.The measuring method of research proposed is much more sophisticated anddeeply than the methods before. And based on the measuring method and mathematic methods, we reconstruct the three dimensional model of the rotary kiln which makesthe result much more intuitive and facilitate following study.
