“The voice” is China’s first television public class for youth. Since it began in August2012, audience ratings have gone up and been well accepted. Its outstanding characteristic isthe instant interaction between the host, guests and the representatives of the youth, by whichto control the whole situation. In the interactive dialogue of the three, we found thatinterruption plays an important role in the development of the whole program. The analysis ofinterruption has been studied before, but no one has been involved in the analysis ofinterruption in “The voice”.This paper intends to analyze interruption in “The Voice” on the basis of predecessors’theories and analysis.This paper argues that interruption is a common phenomenon in “the Voice”. Talk showslike “The voice” is different from daily conversation. It is conducted in special contexts, inwhich the three parties of the host, guests and representatives of the youth communicate witheach other. The application of interruption in “the Voice” follows the Interpersonal RhetoricPrinciples, but violates the principles at the meantime. Whether to follow or to violate them,its ultimate goal is to promote the development of the program.This paper uses the relevant theories of pragmatics to analyze the interruption in talkshows like “the Voice”, which can not only help us better understand the program, but isinstructive for the appropriate use of interruption in similar talk shows. Of course, interruptionplays certain guiding roles in our daily communication.
