In recent years, Wireless Mesh Network technologies have rapid development, it can access to many successful commercial application, but, at the same time, it encountered many technical bottleneck. The main two bottlenecks are co-channel interference and routing technologies. The traditional Wireless Mesh Networks use a single Radio to complete backhaul and access, co-channel interference severely limites the size of network, moreover, many of the technical features and advantages of Wireless Mesh Network comes from the multi-hop routing. Therefore, research and design of network hardware and routing protocols based on dual Radio is an important topic of Wireless Mesh Network technology. This dissertation firstly introduces the principle of Wireless Mesh Networks, key technologies and the existing problems in use. Secondly, a network hardware based on dual Radio for the co-channel interference problems is designed. The hardware has two Radios, not only can it avoid frequency interference in the return link and access link with improving access efficiency, but also can it achieve cell division of Mesh district to increase the amount of content. Then, the OLSR protocol is focused on. The corresponding improvements are made according to the actual situation of the Wireless Mesh Networks. The improved OLSR protocol has lower algorithm complexity and network overhead, and it also improves the network utilization. Finally, a test environment is built and the results of the test are given. By the comparison of the test results, we conclude that, in the case of Wireless Mesh Networks, the performance of designed system is significantly better than traditional wireless Mesh routing equipments.
