A Study Of High-level Swimmers’ Major-choosing And Employment Situation In Chinese Universities And Colleges

Based on the research of high-level swimmers’ choices of major, the academic status and employment status, the essay is to reorganize the universities’ training methods of high-level swimmers and summarize current problems in cultivation process. Questionnaire survey and interviewing method were adopted among three groups of people, namely teachers, coaches and athletes. Below are six conclusions after analyzing.1. The freedom degree of major-choosing of high-level athletes depends on their academic grades. One could choose major according to his or her National College Entrance achievement (at least beyond the admission scores obviously). With excellent athletic performance, one could participate in certain schools’independent recruitment and the major will be appointed by schools.2. Some passive acceptances are found in major-choosing process and it affects their learning initiative. Colleges and universities need to give certain guidance to high-level athletes’ studies and try to avoid anxious caused by backward in academic grades.3. The majority of high-level athletes in Chinese universities choose major in liberal arts sphere rather than science and engineering as the former one is relatively less stressed.4. The career choices of high-level swimmers are rather diverse. Most athletes would pick a career related to one’s major while others choose to be a graduate student and not to be confined in sports field. The athletes could combine sports experiences and four-year professional learning in order to perform better in their future career.5. With societies’ higher standards towards university graduates, high-level athletes’ crisis awareness push them to attend graduate school to enhance their competitiveness.
