Innovative Research On Counsellors’ Educational Work With Social Media Application

Social media refer to online media platform, which rely on network communications and digital commnunications technology. Users can establish extensive contacts, access a variety of information and sevices with great participation and interaction by it. Micro-blog, QQ, Renren, Wechat are typical representatives. Social media is the inevitable trend of the development of science and technology, create convenient, rich virtual space for college student, bring great changes to their study, life and thoughts, also make counsellor educational environment tend to be complex. Challenges and opportunities coexist in educational work.Social media is an important part of college life and counsellor education work, but study findings of social media applications to counsellor education as the object is relatively rare. Problems such as the present situation of social media’s application to the counsellor work, the existed questions and solutions need further research urgently. I decided to make tentative efforts on this topic. Specifically, this paper consists of the following parts.The introduction part mainly includes the reason and significance of this topic, research status, research problems and research methods. First, this paper demonstrates the practical and theoretical value of the research. Then describes research status on social media using in college student affairs and instructors’ work, learn about the extent of the problem research. Lastly describes the research questions of this paper and the research methods one by one, introduced the research background of this paper preliminarily.The first part gives a general overview of social media and counsellors’ work. First, this paper discusses the definition, types, characteristics of social media as well as counsellors’ role and responsibilities by literature research method. Then elaborates the counsellors are the backbone of Ideological and Political Education, mentors and close friends of college students, among all their responsibilities,"education" is the core. Finally, discusses the basis of application of social media to counsellor educational work. By means of literature method and empirical investigation, this part proposes the close link between counsellor education and social media, provides theoretical and practical basis for the application of social media in counsellor education. This paper argues that counsellors use social media to carry out educational work mainly bases on the Carrier of Ideological and Political Education Theory, Using and Gratification Theory as well as the Agenda Setting Theory. Meanwhile, contacting the reality shows that counsellors apply social media in educational work not only has advantages and feasibilities, but also has necessity and urgency.The second part analyzes the present situation of counsellor education with social media and its causes. This part is based on empirical investigation, through the combination of questionnaire and interview method, first gives an overview of the research object and content, then analyzes the results of the survey: the achievements and the existing problems of application of social media in counsellor education, finally proposes the possible reasons, in order to pave the way for the third part to put forward corresponding countermeasures.The third part presents some new ideas for counsellors’ innovative education by social media, which is the focus of this paper. According to the problems and shortcomings appeared in the application of social media to carry out educational work of counsellor, combined with the using status in college students, this paper puts forward some new ideas for counsellors’ innovative educational work with social media. First, the counsellor should strengthen the concepts and the ability to carry out the work by the application of social media. Second, counsellors should strengthen the ideological guidance and lead by using social media.Third, with the help of social media, counselors should carry out all kinds of creative educational activities.Fourth, counsellors should enhance the effectiveness of service education with social media.Fifth, continue to improve the mechanism of applying social media in college counsellor education.Social media is a new position to carry out the education for college counsellors, their using of social media to strengthen education effectiveness depends on the guidance of scientific theory. Yet the validity of the theory is verified and developed during the practice process of counsellor education.This paper emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, based on the reality of the impact of social media on college students’ learning life and counselor education, using the method of questionnaire investigation, interview method, and literature method to focus on understanding the new situation. I conduct in-depth investigations and studies on the new problems encountered in the current counsellors’social media applications in education as well as the new ideas, in order to innovate and promote the effectiveness of the counselor education applying social media.
