Marxist Feminist Critique Of Everyday Life And Its Implications

Marxist feminism is an ideological trend that feminism analyzes the issues of women’s status and emancipation using the method of Marxist theory. Since the mid-twentieth century, Marxist feminism was deeply influenced by the method of critiques of everyday life. It revealed the phenomenon that women suffered from unequal treatment in the contemporary capitalist society. So it deepens our understanding of the contemporary women’s state in everyday life. This paper tries to sort out Marxist feminism from the perspective of critiques of everyday life, and show the depth of this perspective.First, this paper confirms that Marx and Engels were the founders of the theory of critiques of everyday life. The theory is formed on the basis of Marx and Engels’ criticism on capitalist society. Marx and Engels did not systematically construct the theory, but in fact in their series of writings, they established the basic position of everyday life, and made it as the base of Historical Materialism.Based on this judgment of the orthodoxy of Marxist critiques of everyday life, this paper reviews the work that Marxist feminist investigated contemporary women’s living condition, social status and emancipation from two areas of everyday life. On daily labor dimension is concerned, Marxist feminism mainly on the status of women living labor from two aspects:the private sector and public sector labor. In order to achieve women’s liberation, Marxist feminists believe that women’s housework should be given adequate attention, and it should be given to women in the public domain with the same rights as men. Relational dimension to everyday life is concerned, Marxist Feminism Reflections on the main women’s liberation issue from three aspects:the body dimensions, functions and dimensions of consciousness. Marxist feminists mainly use the concept of alienation founders of Marxism examines the state of women’s daily lives, and made point of view that the female body, functions and consciousness actually is alienated. Marxist feminists revealed the roots of women’s oppression, and promoted the process of women’s liberation movement.This paper also discusses contemporary Chinese women’s living condition, social status, and liberation by referencing to the analysis of Marxist Feminism. The establishment of the socialist political system changed the fundamental status of Chinese women, so that they get a lot of rights, but it is obviously that women in our country are still suffering various inequalities and injustice in everyday life. So, we can’t replace justice of daily life with the justice of the grand narrative. We must pay more attention to women emancipation in everyday life.
