Objective To summarize the general features, the clinical manifestations and signs, checking methods, treatment and clinical outcome of 28 patients with infective endocarditis, to improve the diagnosis and treatment level of infective endocarditis. Methods 28 cases of IE patients who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2010 to December 2015 were retrospectively analyzed, including the patient’s general characteristics, heart disease, clinical manifestation, routine laboratory tests, pathogenic examination, echocardiography table, course of treatment and clinic outcome. Results The average age of the patients was(41.61±14.60) years, the ratio of male to female was 1.55:1. 42.86%(12/28) of the cases at least accompanied by a basic heart disease, and the congenital ventricular septal defect(VSD) is the most common(66.67%,8/12). The the most common clinical manifestations were fever(67.86%, 19/28) and the heart tired shortness of breath(67.86%, 19/28).The positive rate of echocardiogram was 67.86%(19/28).50.00%(14/28) of the patients detected positive pathogens, and their pathogens were more common in Streptococcus species(71.43%,10/14). The most common used of antibiotics is Penicillin(64.29%,18/28). 25.00%(7/28) patients was accepted surgical treatment. 85.71%(24/28) patients in the cases had at least one complication. The in-hospital mortality was about 7.14%(2/28).Conclusion Congenital heart disease is the most common predisposing factor of IE, Specific clinical manifestations and signs are rare. As the specific indicators have not yet been found, the diagnose still bases on culture of blood and echocardiogram. The pathogen of IE has no obvious changes than before. In the treatment of IE, the principle is anti-infection and removing vegetation.Indications of surgical treatment : severe heart failure, unmanageable infection, large valve vegetations. The rate of IE complication is high, the overall prognosis is acceptable.
