Reliability And Validity Of Chinese Version Of Caring Behaviors Inventory

Purpose: To develop a Chinese version of Caring Behaviors Inventory(CBI) and evaluate its validity and reliability.Methods: Introduce the Caring Behaviors Inventory to China through the“translation-back translation-cultural adjustment-preliminary test”model after we got the authorization of professor Wolf.Totally, 243 clinical nurses and 263 patients in four tertiary hospitals in Gansu province were chosed with convenience sampling method; a subgroup of 27 clinical nurses and 20 patients answered the survey twice. Evaluate the appropriateness of scale items by the critical ratio and homogeneity test.The content validity of the questionnaire was assessed by the expert review.Assess the structure validity of the scale strictly by exploratory factor analysis(EFA) and confirmatory analysis(CFA).The reliability of the scale was estimated through the Cronbach’a and the test-retes reliability.Results: The critical ratio of all the items ranged from 8.47 to 22.57,the correlation coefficients between each item with the total score ranged from 0.56 to 0.81.The content validity index(CVI)for item content validity and scale-Level validity were 1. Exploratory factor analysis indicated the CBI was composed of 3 factors, which could explain 67.22% of the total variance,the factor loading value ranged from 0.550 to 0.838.The three scales’ CMIN/DF was 1.25, RMSEA was 0.036, GFI, CFI were all more than0.90. The scale’s structure validity was good.The Cronbach’ s α was 0.959 and the Cronbach’ s α of each factor ranged from 0.897 to 0.928,the test-retested reliability of each factor ranged from 0.575 to 0.794.Conclusions: Formed the Chinese version of the Caring Behaviors Inventory(CBI).The scale consists of three dimensions,24 items.The three dimensions include:①Assurance,with 10 items;②Knowledge and Skill,with 5 items;③Respectful and Connectedness,with 9 items.The three dimensions internal consistency coefficients were all acceptable.The Chinese version of the Caring Behaviors Inventory(CBI) has good reliability and validity. It can be used as a valid tool for the measurement of nurses’ caring behaviors.
