ObjectivesThis study aimed to evaluate the dissection capability of 1940 nm thulium laser in colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) by compared with high frequency electricity knife. MethodsFrom January 2015 to March 2016, 47 consecutive patients were included for 1940 nm thulium laser group or high frequency electricity knife group. Preoperative status and the size of resected tissue, mean operation time, mean procedure speed, perioperative complications were recorded for each patient. ResultsAll the operation were successfully completed. The mean size of resected tissue for the 1940 nm thulium laser group and high frequency electricity knife group was 6.71±4.86cm2,4.79±3.15cm2(P=0.14), mean operation time was 65.16±29.10min、66.64±33.82min(P=0.88),mean procedure speed was 0.11±0.71 cm2/min,0.82±0.52cm2/min,(P=0.11). No complications occurred during procedure, postperative infection occurred in 1 patients in the 1940 nm thulium laser group and 3 patients(bleeding 2, infection 1)in the other group. All the complications were cured. ConclusionsThere was no difference between 1940 nm thulium laser and high frequency electricity knife in dissection capabilities and complication during ESD, but 1940 nm thulium laser may reduce the risk of bleeding.
