Objective:To investigate the prevalence of cataract, surgical coverage rate and the bilateral cataract blindness burden among adults aged 50 or above in the population of Luxi County, Yunnan Province, for evaluation the cataract status and the efficacy of the prevention blindness program by implementation the cataract surgery in recent 8 years in Luxi County since the 2006 survey of eye diseases. Methods:a cluster random sampling method was used.21 points (about 1000 each sampling point)were selected in Luxi from september to november,2014.5592 cases aged 50 or above received visual acuity test and eye examination, including lens examination by slit lamp. To evaluate the prevalence and operation status of cataract. Results:In 5592 cases,1507 cases of cataract were found, the prevalence of cataract was 26.95%. Cataract blindness accounted for all blind 61.13%. With the increase of age, the prevalence rate increased, elderly and illiteracy increased significantly, differences were statistically significant (P= 0.000). After 2006, cataract surgical rate continued to increase, using better eyes PVA(presenting visual acuity)<0.1 as the blind criterion, cataract surgery coverage rate was 43.5%. The bilateral cataract blindness burden was 7.80%.Conclusion:cataract is the main cause of blindness, cataract surgical coverage rate in cataract blindness is not high, prominent in the elderly, illiterate cataract induced blindness, the primary task of prevention and treatment blindness is still catarac. |
