The Application Research Of Group Work In Providing Psychological Support For Cancer Patients

Cancer, also known as malignant tumor, has become a kind of common disease,frequently-occurring disease in the current of the world, which does serious damage to human health. Cancer has long been regarded as one of the most terrible disease, which is often regarded as the "name" of death, so cancer patients often appear the behavior such as fear, depression, suspicion, insomnia, despair, anxiety and other psychological problems,even retreat, suicide, etc. Many scholars believe that psychosocial factors play an important role in the process of the occurrence and development of cancer. As the biological-psychology-social medical model is accepted by the public gradually, the status of psychological treatment in the comprehensive treatment of malignant tumors has been improving, and people have also realized the great effect and practical value of psychotherapy. For cancer patients, social psychological intervention can not only alleviate the patients’ anxiety, depression, and eliminate fear, but also reduce the patients’ body reaction caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, enhance the patients’ self-confidence and adherence, even improve the level of the patient’s immune, thus improve the patients’ survival rate. In the psychotherapy of cancer patients, group psychotherapy is one of the important methods."the light of life, treat cancer with love" cancer patient support group project is one of the winning projects in Suzhou community, which depends on the service platform of "Sunshine Emotion" club, to provide service to the severe patients with cancer within the River community. "Sunshine Emotion" club was founded by cancer patients voluntarily in2003. And with the enlargement of the "Sunshine Emotion" club influence, the club has more than 50 members now. The project sets up support groups through social workers carrying out the group activities, to realize resource sharing in the group activities, topromote the patients’ emotional communication and to solve the psychological problem,thus let the cancer patients have a cheerful mood.From the perspective of social work, with the aid of "the light of life, treat cancer with love” cancer patient support group project in Suzhou L Community, based on cancer patients’ psychological needs, this article is written to provide psychological support for cancer patients using the group work, and further to evaluate the results carefully, then to do some exploratory research to the group social work of cancer patients.
