| Objective After the 13 cases of styloid process syndrome in patients with clinical data were analyzed retrospectively researching and studying the clinical diagnosis and treatment of the disease, to improve clinician awareness of the disease,explore the misdiagnosis reasons and experience summary, provide references for clinicians of the disease correct diagnosis and treatment, improve the level of the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.Methods 13 patients with styloid process syndrome were admitted to the Second Hospital of Shandong University from June 2013 to December 2015. The clinical data of 13 cases of misdiagnosed styloid process Syndrome were retrospectively analyzed from the clinical manifestations, misdiagnosis, specialist examination, imaging, treatment and prognosis.Results 13 patients all had histories of hospitals in the province more than one departments visits,and the first diagnosis were misdiagnosed as other diseases. Six patients were misdiagnosed as chronic pharyngitis,2 patients were misdiagnosed as chronic tonsillitis,2 patients were misdiagnosed as pharyngeal paraesthesia,1 case of patients were misdiagnosed as cervical spondylosis,1 case of patients were misdiagnosed as glossopharyngeal nerve pain,1 case of patients were misdiagnosed as scar reaction after tonsillectomy. The duration ranging from 2 months to 10 years.later visited in our hospital,after a series of examination confirmed the diagnosis of styloid process syndrome. These patients were performed surgical treatment, postoperative recoveries were well.Conclusions The diversities of the clinical manifestations of styloid process syndrome, and also has the characteristics of crossing with other diseases, thus increasing the difficulties of diagnosis. So clinicians should strengthen the understanding of the disease, on the other hand to combine with the case history, pharyngeal palpation and imaging examination results, while paying attention to the differential diagnosis of other diseases, comprehensive judgment in order to increase the correct rate of styloid process syndrome diagnosis. |
