The higher level of job burnout can lead to a drop in the quality of medical treatment.ObjectiveTo investigate the medical workers’ job burnout situation and its relation with anxiety,depression, self-efficacy, personality characteristics as well as its coping style, so as to provide theoretical evidences to make effective strategies for preventing job burnout, maintaining physical and mental health and improving the quality of their work.MethodThe research was carried out by utilizing questionnaire survey. A self-made questi-onnaire is involved in order to examine the socio-demographic characteristics. Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS), Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS), Coping Styles Questionnaire (CSQ),Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ), Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey(MBI-GS) and Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES) were also involved in the study to assess the mental health situation.Data processing was by SPSS 13.0,and t-test,chi-square test,analysis of variance and Pearson Correlation analysis were chosen as statistical methods.Results1. In this study, a total of 470 medical workers were involved. Among them, there were 366 doctors and 104 nurses. The age ranged from 20 to56 years old and the mean age was (36.23±7.37) years.2. In this study, for SDS,the mean scores were (50.55±12.66) for doctors and (47.52±10.61) for nurses. In relation to SAS,the mean scores were (47.77±13.88) for doctors and (42.33±10.03) for nurses. It was 32.3% of the medical workers existed anxiety,40.8% had a feeling of depression.3. In this study, for MBI-GS, the mean score were (1.92±1.16), (1.72±0.87) and (2.95±1.69) for EE, DP and PAL. The overall detection rate of job burnout from medical workers was 32.5%(153 of 470). For the MBI-GS, the mean score of EE, DP, PAL were all lower than the norm(all P<0.001).4. The participants scored (14.21±3.99) for positive coping style and (11.75± 4.67) for the negative coping style. There was no difference between the doctors and nurses in the score of positive coping style (P=0.965).But the doctors scored higher than the nurses in negative coping style (P=0.009)5. For GSES, the mean score was (2.63±7.29).The doctors scored higher than the nurses (t=2.18,P=0.030)6. For EPQ,the doctors scored higher than the nurses in introverted and extroverted personality,psychoticism and nervousness personality. Only for introverted and extroverted personality,the difference come to significance (3.45±1.61 VS 2.78±2.01,t=2.24, P=0.025)7. We found that the score of SAS,SDS and negative coping style had a positive correlation with the score of MBI-GS. We found that the score of GSES and positive coping style had a negatively correlation with the score of MBI-GS. We found that personality of nervousness and psychoticism had positive correlation with the score of MBI-GS.Conclusion1 We found medical workers had some degree of anxiety, depression,and job burnout.
