Objective:To investigate the safety, feasibility and early outcomes of lateral lumbar interbody fusion for the treatment of lumbar degenerative disease.Method:21 patients suffered from lumbar degenerative disease were treated with lateral lumbar interbody fusion including 5 degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis,14 lumbar spinal stenosis,2 degenerative scoliosis. A total of 31 levels were treated. Average age was 66.04±9.88 years. The operation time, blood loss, VAS and ODI scores, intervertebral and foramen hight were recorded. The perioperative complications were observed.Result:All surgery were successfully completed, mean operation time was 117.14±42.44min, mean blood loss was 84.19±28.13ml. All patients were followed up for 3-6months, average 3.22±1.22months, the VAS score decreased from 7.50±0.74 to 3.04±0.86, and to 2.46±0.68 at last follow-up. ODI score decreased from 43.68±8.20 to 21.75±6.78 at last follow-up, the intervertebral disc hight increased from 9.67mm to 14.61mm, the foramen hight increased from 19.15mm to 22.60mm. Perioperative complications were observed in 9 patients, majority patients’symptoms were obviously improved at last follow-up.Conclusion:Lateral lumbar interbody fusion is a safe, feasible and effective method for the treatment of lumbar degenerative disease, but still need further application. |
