Study On Current Status And Countermeasure Of Clinical Pharmacy

Clinical pharmacy was first put forward by the United States in the late 1950s. USA suggested to set up clinical pharmacy in colleges and universities. Then, American Council on Pharmaceutical Education(ACPE) decided to overall implement Pharm. D professional education from July 14st 1997 to June 1st 2000. In China, the clinical pharmacy was first put forward in the early 1980s, and set up the first undergraduate major in 1989. The Ministry of Education approved 11 schools to set up clinical pharmacy up to 2010, which intents to train professional technicians on practical applications of pharmaceutical. They can make a treatment team with doctor and nurse to improve the level of rational drug use and ensure the patient safety by way of directly facing to patients and helping to select appropriate drugs. In this paper, literature research, comparative research and interviews were employed to investigate the development status of clinical pharmacy at home and abroad, analysed problems of clinical pharmacy in China, then put forward the countermeasures. We aimed to promote clinical pharmacy education in China. In this paper, the main work and results are as follows:1. Summarize the background and process of the development of clinical pharmacy. The concept of clinical pharmacy were firstly put forward by the United States in the late 1950s. It indeed has played a positive role in maximizing the efficacy of drugs to ensure drug safety, effect and rational of patients after 50 years of development. In China, after 30 years development, the idea that pharmacists should go out of drugstore for clinical, take the patient as the center, focus on rational use of drugs, promoted the rapid and comprehensive development of clinical pharmacy.2. Systematically analyze the current status of the development of clinical pharmacy at home and abroad, then mainly discuss the problems in the development of clinical pharmacy in China.In the United States, it has taken more than 40 years from the proposal of clinical pharmacy’s concept to the overall implementation of Pharm.D. professional education in 2000. In China, it has taken nearly 30 years from the proposal of clinical pharmacy’s concept to more than 20 institutions offering clinical pharmacy decipline now, and in this meantime the first undergraduate major was opened in 1989. Great progress has been made in the scale of recruitment, curriculum, teachers, teaching materials and teaching base. However, at present, there are mainly four problems. First, there is no uniform standards for clinical pharmacy education for undergraduate in China. Second, the clinical pharmacy course is short of characteristics. The curriculum and teaching is out of line with clinical. Third, the lack of teachers, especially the lack of the specialized clinical pharmacists. Fourth, clinical pharmacy teaching material needs to be improved, while education needs to be standarded.3. Put forward the countermeasures to promote clinical pharmacy. According to the goal which intents to train professional technicians on practical applications of pharmaceutical, pharmacotherapy is the most important. We put forward four countermeasures. First, draw up unified suggestion for undergraduate education of clinical pharmacy in China. Second, construct course system of clinical pharmacy with prominent characteristics. Third, foster specialized clinical pharmacists by way of well employing clinical pharmacists from affiliated hospital and strengthening to train teachers. Fourth, strengthen to compose teaching material of specialized pharmacotherapy.To sum up, the research in this paper and the practice of this work has promoted the teaching of clinical pharmacy education in our school. We are hoping to enhance the teaching quality and level of clinical pharmacy education, cultivate outstanding pharmacists and contribute to the development of Chinese clinical pharmacy.
