Objective: We study on the relationship between clinical and pathological features of left- or right-sided colon cancer and the colon cancer patients’ survival, and then discuss the possible impact factors in order to provide scientific data and theoretical basis for the further prevention and treatment of left- or right-sided colon cancer. Method: 232 colon cancer patients with complete clinical and pathological data from Fujian Union Hospital were retrospectively collected in the study, including their tumor location, pathological type, postoperative stage, progression-free survival, living habbits and family history and so on. Kaplan-Meier method was used to draw the survival curve of patients with colon cancer and the COX proportional hazard model for multivariate regression analysis were exerted to discuss the impact factors in colon cancer patients. With left- or right-sided colon cancer as hierarchical factor, Kaplan-Meier method were adopted to analyze patients’ age, gender, pathological stage and degree of tumor differentiation in statistics, and the constituent ratios of corresponding items were analyzed respectively, to find the possible impact factors to prognosis of left- or right-sided colon cancer. Results: Among the 232 follow-up cases witch were analysised, male and female were 151 and 81 cases respectively, and average age were 60.1767, and average DFS were 70.138 month.Single factor analysis showed that tumor pathological stage, depth of tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis, tumor location(left or right-sided colon), postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and smoking history were closely related with the prognosis of colon cancer( P<0.05),while age, gender, family history, alcohol consumption, tumor differentiation degree, tumor pathological type and postoperative adjuvant systemic chemotherapy were less related to the prognosis( P > 0.05). Multivariate analysis also showed that the tumor stage, tumor location(left- or right-sided colon), intraperitoneal chemotherapy and smoking history were significant prognostic factors(P<0.05). Stratified analysis showed that left-sided colon cancer patients with primary resection had longer progression-free survival than the right-sided colon cancer patients, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).With further study, we found that the left-sided colon cancer patients who are older than 60, female, low- moderate histological differentiation grade had better prognosis significantly. Conclusion: Tumor location(left- or right-sided colon)is the major impact factor for the prognosis of colon cancer. The result that the right-sided colon cancer patients had shouter PFS than the left-sided colon cancer patients suggested that the right colon cancer have higher malignant degree, especially among those people who are older than 60-year-old, female, low-middle histological differentiation grade, which is worthy of further clinical study.
