Objective: As it is different in embryonic origin, anatomy, physiology, clinical manifestation, molecular phenotype and treatment effect between left-sided colon cancer(LSCC)and right-sided colon cancer(RSCC),more and more masters are reaching an agreement that LSCC and RSCC are two different diseases.During this study,we analyze the sex, age, pathological pattern, and immunohistochemical results of LSCC and RSCC,in order to provide evidence to prove their relationship. Methods: Retrospectively analyzed the data of 489 in-patients(277 of LSCC,212 of RSCC)diagnosis of colon cancer after surgery in the First Affiliated Hospital of GuangXi Medical University from January 2015 to December 2016.χ~2test was used to analyze their sex, age, pathological and immunohistochemical results. Results: 1.It is similar when it comes to the number of patient between LSCC(277)and RSCC(212),which is 56.65% to 43.35%.2.The male to femaleratio of LSCC is 1.62:1,while the other is 1.77:1.Both LSCC and RSCC are more frequent in male, which is of no statistical significance.3.The result of age distribution of RSCC is like this: 51cases(24.06%)of group less than 50 years,122(57.55%)of group between 59 to 69,30(14.15%)of group between 70 to 79,9(4.25%)of group more than 79.The result of age distribution of LSCC is like this: 58cases(20.94%)of group less than 50 years,161(58.12%)of group between 59 to 69,48(17.33%)of group between 70 to 79,10(3.61%)of group more than 79.At the age less than 50-year,patients of RSCC are more than that of LSCC,while patients older than 70 years are more in LSCC,which is with no statistical significance.4.The ratio of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma in RSCC is higher than that of LSCC,which is 21.7% compared to 16.25% and with no statistical significance.5.There is difference with statistical significance between LSCC and RSCC in the comparison of mucus component(χ~2=8.656,p=0.003),infiltration depth(χ~2=8.966,p=0.03),gross pathology(χ~2=8.33,p=0.016),size of tumor(χ~2=14.762,p<0.001),number of lymph nodes reaches 12 or not(χ~2=8.376,p=0.004),metastases staging(χ~2=4.295,p=0.038)and TNM staging(χ~2=10.544,p=0.014).And the difference of pathological type and lymph node staging makes no statistical significance.6.Immunohistochemical results include CD34,D2-40,Ki-67,MLH1,MSH2,MSH6,PMS2,CEA,CK,S-100.In those results,we can only see significant difference in Ki-67(χ~2=4.804,p=0.028),CK(χ~2=8.161,p=0.043).Conclusions: There is significant difference between LSCC and RSCC inpathological manufacture, which means LSCC and RSCC are two different diseases and have two different pathogenesis.
