Objective: To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MS) in coalworker’s pneumoconiosis(CWP) and the general elderly population, and compare thedifference between the two groups of people. To explore the affecting factors in CWP inmale elderly population suffering from of MS. It provides a scientific basic for CWP inelderly population for the prevention and treatment of MS, and cardiovascular disease, futher to reduce their prevalence of cardiovascular events.Methods:690cases of CWP from Occupational Disease Hospital of Xinjiang UygurAutonomous Region during July,2010-March2014and462cases of health elderlypopulation were studied, and the height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, blood lipid, uric acid, hemoglobin, red blood cell and relevantindicators were determined by the way of a case-comparing,the statistical analysis of theprevalence of MS and its components, and the Logistic regression analysis of factorsassociated with MS in CWP.Results:The rates of MS detected from different stages of CWP group showed significantdifference (P<0.05), MS detected in patients with CWP stage I was the highest, relativerisk48.44%. hypertension was the among4groups of CWP patients with MS. Thehypertension rates Detection from CWP in higher than that in the general population, thedetection rate of hypertension is higher with the increase of age. The rate of abdominalbesity from CWP group aged over80years old was higher than that in control group. thepositive rate of abnormal blood lipid from CWP group aged during60-79years old washigher than that in control group. the age, smoking, red blood cell, hemoglobin, uric acid, body mass index were the independent risk factors of MS by Logistic regression analysis (the OR values were1.033,1.713,3.136,1.084,2.656,1.473).Conclusion:The rates of MS detected between CWP patients and the general elderlypeople shows no statistically significant difference. the age, smoking, red blood cell, hemoglobin, uric acid, body mass index and dust-exposed were the risk factors of MS.
