This thesis focuses on Foochow Maritime Customs Medical Officers in late Ch’ing dynasty. As a member of Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs, medical officers provided good favorable service to Customs staffs. In the late Ch’ing Dynasty, Medical officers are paid attention to improve public health around Foochow Foreign Community. In addition, Medical Officers keep the close contact with other Foochow foreign medical systems. Generally speaking, Foochow Maritime Customs Medical Officers’practice aim to improve the foreigners’health in Foochow. Therefore, Foochow Maritime Customs Medical Officers’ activities still belong to the category of colonial medicine.
