Background:Private hospital played an active role in the health care reform. The development of private hospital can break the monopoly of public hospital services and technology, raising awareness of public hospital about the sense of competition, and promote the development of their services and technology. Meanwhile, the development of private hospital helps to increase health care resources and expand service supply to meet the people’s multi-level, diversified demand for medical services. The development of Chinese private hospital is rapid and the characteristics are obvious. During2008-2012, Chinese private hospitals increased from5403to9786, with an average annual growth rate of approximately16%, and about80%of private hospitals with specialist features. However, many factors influence the development of private hospital including internal management and macroeconomic policies, so that the private hospital has been controversial fully. It is the question for hospital operators and administrative decision-makers to study the development trend and future direction of the private hospital in Hangzhou under the background of the private hospital development in the country and the influence of local policy.Objectives:To analyze the current status of private hospital in Hangzhou, and to research the further development strategies from the internal problems and external business environment of private hospital. Simultaneously, the government policy and the main regulatory program made by the authorities are also focused on the research. Methods:Comparing the general business conditions between the public hospitals and private hospitals in Hangzhou according to the health system statistics. Analyze the situation of the private hospital, including the administrative penalties, bad practice scoring, complaints, disinfection and isolation, to research the management problems and deficiencies of the private hospital. Design the questionnaire to investigate the health resource allocation of each private hospital. Make medical staff and public masses on-site survey to find out the awareness and attitudes toward the private hospital. Analyze the problems and the needs of private hospital through interviews with the person in charge. Organize the information above to analyze the status quo of private hospital in Hangzhou, and to study the development management strategies.Results:During2011-2013, private hospital in Hangzhou showing the characteristics like growing fast, obvious specialist, high service satisfaction, etc. At the same time, there are several problems on the private hospital, such as smaller scale, lack of self-discipline and integrity, difficulty talent introduction, unfair policies, weak internal management, weak government regulation, etc.Conclusion:The key for long-term healthy development of private hospital is the management of integrity, self-discipline and establishing a brand image. It is also necessary to create special projects, providing quality services, improving enterprise system, improving the management level, preventing the talents draining, improving medical technology, completing matching policy, and executes effective regulatory. The development of private hospital should be remote from both internal and external management.
