Objective To provide the reference basis for health education of human papillomavirus(HPV) infection and HPV vaccine inoculation on the public, a suitable scale about knowledge, cognition and attitude of HPV infection was prepared, and the current situation of knowledge and cognition of HPV infections among inpatients at the third-level grade-A hospital in Hengyang city was analyzed. Methods On the basis of “Knowledge-Attitude-Practice theory”, the framework of “Cognition, attitude and behavior scale of related knowledge about HPV infection” was initially constructed using reviewing literature, Delphi and opening questionnaire. Twenty-five domestic experts whose work was associated with the research of HPV were invited to review the scale. Thirty inpatients were randomly selected for a pre-survey at a third-level grade-A hospital in Hengyang city and the contents of scale were determined. Then, 192 inpatients at a third-level grade-A hospital were randomly selected for a preliminary survey, a series of statistic analysis was conducted with SPSS 18.0, such as coefficient of variation, correlation coefficient, reliability and validity. Finally, the application scale were used to investigate 553 inpatients who were from three third-level grade-A hospital. The internal consistency, split-half reliability and exploratory factor analysis were analyzed as to develop a formal version scale with 50 items. Simultaneously, the current status of cognition and influent factors on knowledge of HPV infection among inpatients were described and analyzed. Results 1 After two rounds of consultation and analyzing the inpatients questionnaires, a formal scale of “Cognition, attitude and behavior of related-knowledge of HPV infection” was developed; it included 3 subscales, 5 items of level 2 and 50 items. 2 The content validity, internal consistency and split-half reliability index were respectively 0.840, 0.813 and 0.737; Three subscales were respectively “Knowledge of HPV infection and HPV vaccine”, “Attitude or belief of HPV infection and HPV vaccine ” and “Behavior of HPV infection”; their content validity and internal consistency were respectively 0.83, 0.85, 0.80 and 0.857, 0.708, 0.862; their split-half reliability and construct validity cumulative contribution rates were respectively 0.789, 0.698, 0.702 and 66.807%, 40.413%, 44.941%. 3 Awareness rate of HPV was 38.5% among 553 inpatients. The influent factors involving in age, gender, family address, family income and education level on awareness and cognitive level about HPV infection and related-knowledge were significantly different(P<0.05).Conclusions 1 The scale of “Cognition, attitude and behavior of related-knowledge of HPV infection” was developed, and it could be used to investigate people’s HPV infection-related knowledge. The scale’s reliability and validity were adhere to the principle and requirement of scale’s development. 2 The cognition of HPV infection-related knowledge among inpatients at the hospital in Hengyang city were at a low level. The influent factors included age, gender, family address, family income and education level.
