Background Special working environment and work content make the high rate of medical staff burnout than other industries. The doctor-patient relationship has become a focus problem in current society, past research mainly referred on the discussion of the patients’perspective. Few concern was involved in the effect on the mental health of the medical staff. It had seldom been reported whether this relation impact on the medical staff burnout level or not. The purpose of the present study was to use quantitative method to investigate the influence of doctor-patient relationship and medical staff burnout.Objective To investigate the present situation and the link of the perceived doctor-patient relationship, psychological capital and job burnout. To explore the role of psychological capital between the doctor-patient relationship and burnout.Methods We employed Difficult Doctor-Patient Relationship Questionnaire (DDPRQ-10), Psychological Capital Questionnaire (PCQ-24) and Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory (CMBI) as the research tools. And adopted the method of sampling survey to select 424 doctors from the city of Kaifeng, Xinxiang and Puyang, which came from six first-class hospitals as the research objects. The software SPSS21.0 was used to analyze the data.Results1. The gender in the doctor-patient relationship, psychological capital optimism dimension, burnout and depersonalization dimensions has significant difference (t=2.176, P=0.030; t=-2.446, P=0.015;t=2.500, P=0.013; r=2.962, P=0.003).2. There was a significant negative correlation between doctor-patient relationship and psychological capital (r=-0.439,P=0.000).And there is a significant positive correlation between doctor-patient relationship and burnout (r=0.376, P=0.000). There was a significant negative correlation between burnout and psychological capital (r=-0.487, P=0.000).3. The doctor-patient relationship had higher prediction function to psychological capital and burnout (β=-1.028,P=0.000;β=0.749,P=0.000). Psychological capital contribut-ion to predict burnout and had a new explanation variation quantity increased by 12.3%, and the standardized regression coefficients of the doctor-patient relationship was reducing (β=0.358,P< 0.001;β=0.186,P< 0.001), it was accorded with the standard of inspection of the intermediary variable.4. The interaction of psychological capital and the doctor-patient relationship was significant (P< 0.001). It had made a new contribution to predict burnout, and explained the increase of about 2.3% of the variance. So it was accorded with the standard of inspection of the moderator variable.Conclusions1. Male doctors have higher intense level in doctor-patient relationship and burnout than female doctors.2. Tense doctor-patient relationship not only directly cause a high rate of burnout, but also can cause it indirectly by decreased psychological capital level.3. The positive effect of the doctor-patient relationship on burnout can be significantly decreased by an increase in the psychological capital of doctors.
