| Purpose:To examine the relationship between intraocular pressure(IOP) and age, gender, two eyes, refractive state, serum biochemical indexes in the people for physical examination in the Yangtze River Delta region. Methods : This cross-sectional observational study included health check-up IOP subjects in Naval Convalescent Zone,Hangzhou Sanatorium,Nanjing Military Region from October 2007 to December 2013 using non-contact tonometer(NCT). Following cases were excluded: only one eye’s value available, contact lens Wearers, having undergone ocular operation, with corneal and other ocular disease that could possibly affect their IOP,and the IOPs below 6.5mm Hg or above 25 mm Hg. Only the subjects that the difference in IOP within 3mm Hg were enrolled, mean IOP of two eyes was used in the analysis. The relationship between IOP and age, gender, two eyes were analyzed statistically. Diopter and serum biochemical indicators available were also collected, and the correlations with intraocular pressure were analyzed. Results:The total sample of 120327 people, 101753 valid subjects were enrolled in the study(64990 males, 36763 females) as sample â… , the average age is 41.77±12.65.The total IOP sample was right-skewed distribution, the sample median was 14 mm Hg,the mean IOP was 14.196 mm Hg. IOP was significantly decreased with age(rs=-0.041, P<0.05). The regression equation of intraocular pressure Y with age X : Y=14.617-0.01X(F=247.32,P<0.05). The male is significantly higher than the female in IOP(Z=-29.007,P<0.05),well,as could been seen from IOP divided depending on age, it existed only between 20 to 70 years of age(Z=-30.553,P<0.05), arround 20 and 70 age, there are two key points going into reverse:to the age group below 20 years old, the difference in IOP is not significant statistically(Z=-0.137,P=0.891); to those two groups above 70 years old, the female’s IOPs were higher than the male’s,which show significant statistically(Z=-2.05,P=0.04;Z=-2.446,P=0.014). The IOP of the left eyes was higher than the right significantly(Z=-27.545,P<0.05),and the difference in IOP is not significant statistically in the group over 80 years old(Z=-1.142,P=0.253). Further screening with refractive degree record by Computer optometry,8726 people were enrolled as sample â…¡, IOP increased with myopia(Rs=-0.119,P<0.05),compared with left eye, however, right eye had deeper myopia degree and lower IOP(P<0.05).In the sample â…¢,4963 people screened with refractive degree record and serum biochemical Indexes were selected, IOP has positive correlations with BMIã€blood glucoseã€mean arterial blood pressure, and cholesterol statistically, negetive correlations with mean spherical equivalent refraction statistically. The regression equation is of statisticalsignificance: IOP=8.237-0.023AGE+0.058BMI+0.226FPG+0.104CHO+0.039MAP-0.132MSE(F=80.289,P<0.05).Conclusions:IOP with NCT significantly decreased with age, however, the possibility of real IOP increased with age real could not be excluded for the systematic error. The male’s IOP was higher than the female’s only in 20 to 70 years old, arround 20 and 70 age, there are two key points going into reverse. The IOP of the left eyes was higher than the right in the adults below 80 years old. IOP increased with myopia.Compared with left eye, however, right eye had deeper myopia degree and lower IOP. IOP have positive correlations with BMIã€blood glucoseã€mean arterial blood pressure and cholesterol, negative correlations with age and mean spherical equivalent. |
