Research And Discussion Of The Opposing-Nedling Method

ObjectiveThis paper includes two parts of the Opposing-needling research. The first part is to finding out the history and the theoretical basis of the local Opposing-needling treatment by reading the old books and the recently clinical application papers. The second part is to recognizing this needling methods systematically and comprehensively by the statistical analysis with the computer, so that to find out the advantages and characteristics of the Opposing-needling method and its application role, to provide a guidance to the further studies.MethodsFirst, collecting the ancient books recorded on local Opposing-needling treatment, searching for the record about its development in different dynasties. Secondly, with the help of computer, searching for the literatures on Opposing-needling treatment reported by modern acupuncturists, and then select the names of the diseases and its rules of acupoint selection, keep these data in Excel form, list out charts basing on these data, in order to find out some rules or principles on Opposing-needling treatment in common.Results1. Opposing-needling treatment was first recorded in Huangding neijing. It is also recorded in the relative literatures from Qin to Qing dynasties and the modern world. Even though, the acupuncturists use this method mainly according to the ancient record almost without any newly developed theory or its mythology.2. The study searches 310 pieces of documents on Opposing-needling treatment, and it shows that Opposing-needling treatment was widely used in diseases of orthopedics and grammatology, neurology.3. The record also shows that, both in the ancient and the modern literatures, Opposing-needling are mostly used on the treatment of sequel of stroke, per arthritis of shoulder, hemi facial spasm, facial paralysis and ankle sprain.Conclusion1. Local Opposing-needling treatment has a long history, according to the ancient books. Its formation was known from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Qin and Han dynasties. Since that, Opposing-needling treatment was passed on and on during different dynasties without new development.2. Opposing-needling are mostly used on the treatment of sequel of stroke, per arthritis of shoulder, hemi facial spasm, facial paralysis and ankle sprain. The common characteristic of these diseases:(1)The etiology and pathogenesis:injury or chronic strain, exogenous pathogenic cold/dampness/heat, qi and blood deficiency.(2)The lesion:disease-bit thorn in the meridians on the disease rather than the collaterals.(3)Clinical manifestation:Patients were all in the meridians, rather than collaterals. (4)Disease progression:mainly with chronic conditions and long duration.3. Opposing-needling for the treatment of disease spread in the affected side while the other side, and have changes in pulse. Needle or long needle can be used.
