Objective To compare the treatment results and adverse effects ofHIFU treatment for patients with or without abdominal wall scar. Toevaluate the effects of abdominal wall scar on the effectiveness and safety ofHIFU treatment for adenomyosis. Methods From January2011to March2014,534patients referredfor HIFU treatment of adenomyosis at the Suining Central Hospital ofSichuan were retrospectively reviewed. Among them,118patients hadabdominal wall scar,416patients didn’t have abdominal wall scar. Pre-andpost-contrast-enhanced ultrasound was used to evaluate the treatmentefficacy. All the adverse effects were recorded. Results (1)No significantly difference in average non-perfusedvolume rate and sonication dosage between the group with and withoutabdominal wall scar was observed (P>0.05).(2)No significantlydifference in incidence rates of adverse effects during the procedure betweenthe group with and without abdominal wall scar was observed (P>0.05). Theskin injury rate after treatment in the group with abdominal wall scar wassignificantly higher than that in the group without abdominal wall scar (P<0.05).Conclusion(1)The abdominal wall scar has no significantly influenceon the effectiveness of HIFU treatment for adenomyosis.(2) The abdominalwall scar may cause higher rate of skin injury in patients during HIFUtreatment, but the prognosis of skin injury was good, without serious adverseconsequences. Therefore, HIFU is a safe treatment for adenomyotic patientswith abdominal wall scar.
