It has been more than seven decades since the first use ofelectroconvulsive therapy (ECT). It is widely seen as a technique to treatmood disorders and schizophrenia, which has been proved to be quick, safe,effective, and life-saving in acute episodes. With the application ofmuscle-relaxants and anesthetics, the indications and patients of ECT hasbeen expanded. Through long time practice, some psychotic patients withcomorbid neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy,benefited from ECT with improvement on both psychological andneurological symptoms. As a result, the study and clinical practice of ECTon neurological diseases appeals to more and more researchers.
