Study On Clinic Effect Of "Xiaotong Sanjie" Tablets For Thyroid Nodules

Object:To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of Xiaotong Sanjie tablets on thyroid nodules. To explore the pathogenesis of thyroid nodule based on the phlegm and blood stasis theory, and to study the mechanism of the effect of Xiaotong Sanjie tablets on thyroid nodules.Method:One hundred and twenty patients with thyroid nodules were enrolled and randomly divided into three groups, and each group has40cases. Xiaotong Sanjie tablets were taken orally as group A. L-T4was taken orally as group B. Group C did not receive any treatment. All the patients were asked to have a diet with optimal iodine. After6months, the nodule-related parameters (including signs and symptoms, serum levels of thyroid hormones, thyroid peroxidase antibody, thyroid nodule size) and the treatment related side effects were analyzed.Result:(1) Thyroid function and antibodies:in group A, there is no significant difference of thyroid function (FT3, FT4. TSH) before and after treatment (P>0.05); and TPOAb was significantly lower after treatment(P<0.05). The thyroid function (FT3, FT4) in group B had no significant difference before and after treatment (P>0.05), however TSH in group B was significantly lower after treatment(P<0.05). No statistical significance of thyroid function and antibodies were found in group C before and after treatment(P>0.05).(2) The size of thyroid nodules:the maximum diameter and the largest cross-sectional area of thyroid nodules were significantly reduced after treatment in Group A(P<0.05). The maximum diameter and the largest cross-sectional area of thyroid nodules were not significantly changed in group B and group C after treatment (P>0.05).(3) Evaluation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)-related symptoms score and efficacy:After treatment the symptoms in group A was improved significantly,the total clinical effective rate of group A was62.5%and the efficiency of TCM-related symptoms was55%. The total clinical effective rate of group B was17.5%and the efficiency of TCM-related symptoms was7.5%). Clinical effective rate of group C was0%and the effective rate of TCM-related symptom was2.5%.Conelusion:Xiaotong Sanjie tablets, which play a role by regulating qi-flowing to eliminating phlegm and activating circulation to dissipate blood, can reduce the size of thyroid nodules with no significant effect on the thyroid function, and few side effects. Furthermore, it reduces the titer of thyroid antibody and could prevent hypothyroidism. It is worth to promote this medicine widely used in patients with thyroid nodular in clinic.
