ObjectiveBy analyzing the relativity between the symptoms and signs of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) and bone mineral density(BMD) about Kidney-Ying deficiency type postmenopausal osteoporosis(PMO), to determine the coefficient of regression with different symptoms in the treatment response assessment of TCM.Methods60PMO patients of Kidney-Ying deficiency type were selected from the Orthopedics Hospital Affiliated to Guangzhou University of TCM. All of them were asked to fill in a detailed questionnaire about the eight main symptoms and signs of TCM(Lower limb fatigue, Pain, Languor, Noeturia, Muscle weakness, Difficulty walking, Chills, Lower extremity edema). All data was analyzed in SPSS19.0by the multiple linear regression analysis so that we can analyze the relativity between symptom and bone mineral density(BMD).ResultsLower limb fatigue, pain, languor, noeturia were the most dependablity symptoms and signs of TCM with the BMD in the60Kidney-Ying deficiency type PMO patients. In the regression equation, absolute value of the standardized regression coefficients was followed by0.380、0.259、0.226、0.225. Despite the three symptoms of muscle weakness, difficulty walking, chills were Significant correlated with BMD, they were significant correlated with the four main signs, so they were not included in the regression equation. In addition, this study also showed that Lower extremity edema was not significant correlated with BMD. ConclusionFrom this study, we can summarize the following conclusions:supposed the eight main symptoms were the independent variable, and the BMD was the dependent variable, so we got the the regression equation was:BMD=-0.380· Lower limb fatigue-0.259· Pain-0.226· Nocturia-0.225· Languor. The standardized regression coefficient was the objective basis in evaluating the therapeutic efficiency of TCM by PMO patients.
