Objectives; To understand the current actuality of evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills of clinical nurses in Taizhou; to determine the differences in evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills among clinical nurses with different demographic characteristics in Taizhou; to carry out the evidence-based nursing training to provide scientific and theoretical reference and practical guidance for hospitals. Methods:This study is a non-experimentally descriptive research. Convenience samples of clinical nurses were selected as subjects from four comprehensive hospitals at or above the Class II-A. Among them, one is Class III-A general comprehensive hospital and three Class II-A general comprehensive hospitals. In total,560questionnaires were distributed with280for Class III-A and280Class II-A, and547were reclaimed, with a97.7%of reclaiming rate, among which493were valid, with a90.1%of validity rate. The research is based on general information questionnaires and evidence-based nursing practice questionnaires, called EBPQ for short. As for the collected information, the processing and analysis of data were performed by using SPSS17.0statistical software; the descriptive statistics were performed through mean value and standard derivation, percentage, and constitute ratio; and the statistical inference was performed by independent sample T-test, one-way ANOVA analysis.Results:1. Current Actuality of Evidence-based Nursing Behaviors, Attitudes and Skills of Clinical Nurses in TaizhouThe average score for the evidence-based behaviors is4.22±1.09,4.70±1.07for attitudes, and4.28±0.90for the skills, all at the medium level.47.3%of clinical nurses surveyed can rarely stick to evidence-based nursing practices, with an average column score of3.10+0.60.79.1%have correct ideas&positive attitudes towards evidence-based nursing, with an average column score of5.08±0.80.66.7%can apply their skills well, with an average column score of4.80±0.62. The top score is for the attitudes towards evidence-based nursing, the middle for the behaviors, and the minimum for the skills.(1) Evidence-based nursing behavior dimensions (6items): Clinical nurses score most in the ability to put forward specific questions, with an average score of4.65±1.19, followed by the ability to look for evidence when dealing with the specific problems, evaluate the practical effect according to the existing criteria document and evaluate strictly, with an average score4.25±1.26,4.08±1.35,3.85±1.28.(2) Evidence-based nursing attitude dimensions (5items): Clinical nurses score most in realizing that evidence-based practice is professional practice, with a score of5.02±1.41; they perform poorly in working too long to acquire new evidence to guide their practices, with an average score of3.98±1.32.(3) Evidence-based nursing skills dimension (14items):The best3fields are the ability to share new ideas and information with colleagues (4.78±1.20), the ability to evaluate their practice(4.64±1.20) and the ability to promote new ideas to colleagues (4.60±1.25); the worst3fields are respectively the ability to do scientific research(3.59±1.21), the ability to evaluate the quality of the evidence(3.96±1.18) and the ability to transform the problems found during the work into researchable problems (4.03±1.12).2. The Comparison between the Current Actuality of Clinical Evidence-based Nursing Behaviors, Attitudes and Skills and General Demographic CharacteristicsIn terms of age, work seniority, original education background, communication ability, title and duty between the groups, the differences in evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills are statistically significant (p<0.05). Clinical nurses with elder ages, longer work seniorities, stronger communication ability, higher titles and duties tend to perform better in evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills in all dimensions. The differences between groups in the clinical nurse’s department and current educational background are not statistically significant (p>0.05).Conclusion:1. Clinical nurses in Taizhou are at a medium level in terms of evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills. There is still room for improvement, and the highest average score is attitudes followed by behaviors and skills.2. The clinical nurses in Taizhou have positive attitude towards evidence-based nursing. They can identify and solve specific nursing problems, and at the same time they are able to share new ideas and information with colleagues. But as to the current situation of evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills, the3areas which need to be improved or upgraded are respectively the ability to evaluate the quality of information, the heavy workload and the ability to carry out scientific research.3. There are differences in clinical evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills in Taizhou in terms of different general demographic characteristics. Clinical nurses with elder ages, longer work seniorities, stronger communication ability, higher titles and duties tend to perform better in evidence-based nursing behaviors, attitudes and skills in all dimensions.
