Objectives: It was aimed to establishing an evaluation Index system for health informationliteracy on patients with diabetes in this study, and provided a theoretical basis and effectivetool for the assessment of diabetes health education work. Methods: The literature analysis method and theoretical analysis method were used toestablish a tentative evaluation Index system for health information literacy on patients withdiabetes, and then the Delphy expert consultation method was applied to screen and modifythe index and to determine the weight of index system. Krone Bach coefficient, split halfreliability and test-retest reliability were calculated for reliability test, and content validity, structure validity, criterion validity, surface criterion related validity were tested for validityof index system. EPIDATA3.0and SPSS19.0were used for processing and analysis of data. Results: The diabetes patient health information literacy evaluation index system was buildand the weight of it was set. The evaluation index system included3indicators in first level, which consists of consciousness of health information, health information knowledge andhealth information capacity,9indexes in second level and39indexes in third level. Theweights to3indicators in first level were0.322,0.338and0.340, respectively, and they wereset to the corresponding indexes in second and third level as well. The positive coefficientwas100%, the authority coefficient was greater than0.70and the variation index ranged from4.36%to26.65%(all were less than30%) in three rounds of expert consultation, and thecoordination coefficient index is0.482. The experimental study shows that, the Cronbach’sα coefficient of the overall diabetes patients health information literacy questionnaire was0.877, the split half reliability was0.905, the test-retest reliability was0.971. The correlationcoefficients of3indicators in first level to the questionnaire were0.871,0.938, and0.836respectively.9common factors were extracted in Factor analysis, and the cumulativecontribution rates were58.135%, the result from factor analysis have some different to thebasic structure of questionnaire. The experimental study showed that, there was a significantpositive correlation between diabetes health information literacy and diabetes self efficacyand self management behavior, the correlation coefficients were0.420and0.449(P<0.01).Conclusions: The constructed diabetes patient health information literacy evaluation indexsystem including3indicators in first level, which were consciousness of health information, health information knowledge and health information capacity,9indexes n second level and39indexes in third level. While the evaluation system shows a good reliability and validity byexperimental study, but still need further improvement..
