Iron Deficiency(ID)is the most common nutritional deficiency in developingcountry. Latent Iron Deficiency had proved to be the major question of ID.ID affectsthe health of infants, even slight iron deficiency also harm the brain that cannotreversible. Exploring its epidemiological factors, has important reality significancemeaning of the prevention of infants’ ID.ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence rate, distribution characteristics and risk factors ofID of infants in Children health care department of Guangdong province women andchildren’s hospital, and to provide reference for prevention strategies and measures ofinfants’ ID for GuangZhou City.MethodsTo selected infants who were6months to3years old that came to GuangDongprovince women and children’s hospital for health care. By means of inspected theinfants’ Hemoglobin and Serum Feritin, we investigated the prevalence rate, andexploring ID-related factors. We analyzed the results by descriptive epidemiology andnon-conditional logistic regression model. Results1. ID status: The average value of Hb is119.92g/L(119.92±11.48g/L), Theaverage value of SF is30.19μg/L(30.19±20.10μg/L). The total ID prevalence rate is28.9%,7months to1year is37.9%,1to2years is28.6%,2to3years is11.9%, therewere statistical difference in7months to1year and1to2years、7months to1yearand2to3years、1to2years and2to3years.(P<0.05,P<0.01,P<0.01) Thetotal iron depletion prevalence rate is14.9%,7months to1year is15.8%,1to2yearsis18.3%,2to3years is7.3%, there were statistical difference in7months to1yearand2to3years、1to2years and2to3years.(P<0.05,P<0.01)The total IronDeficiency Anemia prevalence rate is14.0%,7months to1year is22.1%,1to2years is10.3%,2to3years is4.5%, there were statistical difference in7months to1year and1to2years、7months to1year and2to3years.(P<0.01)there was nostatistical difference in boys and girls of different ages.2. ID relevant factors(1) The results for single factor logistic analysis showed that risk factorsof7months to1year-old group’s ID included following: premature delivery(OR=1.131,95%CI=1.359~7.513)、irrational supplementary food adding(OR=3.975,95%CI=1.333~7.609)、no add iron strengthen food(OR=1.327,95%CI=1.115~1.930)、no add vitamin A (OR=1.503,95%CI=1.312~4.414)、hasattacked by eczema in early stage of infant(OR=3.559,95%CI=1.641~6.699)、temporary live(OR=2.619,95%CI=1.231~5.569)、mother has attackedby anemia in later period of pregnance(OR=5.280,95%CI=2.280~12.226). Risk factors of1~2years-old group’s ID included following: no add vitamin A(OR=2.292,95%CI=1.024~5.129)、use cup after2years(OR=2.226,95%CI =1.857~5.786)、have dining difficulty(OR=4.249,95%CI=1.938~9.315)、eatfruits and vegetables occasionally (OR=5.033,95%CI=2.075~12.204)、lose interest in food(OR=2.727,95%CI=1.051~7.080)、like or hate some food especially(OR=2.370,95%CI=1.111~5.055). Risk factors of2~3years-old group’s ID included following: lose interest in food(OR=5.400,95%C=1.668~17.482)、like or hate some food especially(OR=3.800,95%CI=1.239~11.651)、temporary live(OR=4.667,95%CI=1.015~21.464)、someone who live togetherhas attacked by stomach illness(OR=3.280,95%CI=1.106~9.730). Risk factors of1~3years-old group’s ID included following: age(OR=1.920,95%CI=1.879~1.964)、no add vitamin A(OR=3.301,95%CI=1.658~6.575)、use cup after2years(OR=2.685,95%CI=1.276~5.647)、have dining difficulty(OR=3.106,95%CI=1.689~5.712)、lose interest in food(OR=3.478,95%CI=1.685~7.810)、like or hate some food especially(OR=2.378,95%CI=1.489~5.037)、father’s age OR=1.487,95%CI=1.118~1.978)、mother’s age(OR=1.394,95%CI=1.039~1.870)、temporary live(OR=2.043,95%CI=1.100~3.976)、someone who live together has attacked by stomach illness(OR=1.643,95%CI=1.370~3.104).(2) Multi-factor analysis showed that the ID risk factors of7months to1year-old group’s ID included following: irrational supplementary food adding(OR=2.097,95%CI=1.161~7.262)、no add vitamin A(OR=2.258,95%CI=1.138~10.292)、has attacked by eczema in early stage of infant(OR=1.337,95%CI=1.148~8.434)、temporary live(OR=2.522,95%CI=1.227~4.305)、mother has attacked by anemia in later period of pregnance(OR=3.802,95%CI=1.463~8.711).The ID risk factors of1~2years-old group’s ID included followin g: use cup after2years(OR=1.665,95%CI=1.156~10.817)、have dining difficulty(OR=2.777,95%CI=1.936~9.238)、eat fruits and vegetables occasionaly(OR=1.931,95%CI=1.153~7.400). The ID risk factors of2~3years-old group’s ID included following: lose interest in food(OR=2.041,95%CI=1.158~11.1951)、someone who live together has attacked by stomach illness(OR=1.767,95%CI=1.332~9.060).
