Objective To describe the status of health literacy, treatment compliance and quality of life of Chinese elderly with hypertension in Yanbian area and explore the relationship among them. To contrast the difference and learn about the level of correlation of literacy, treatment compliance and quality of life based on different demographics.Method Non-experimental design method was used in this study.331 Chinese elderly with hypertension in Yanbian area were selected by convenience sampling. Structural interview about health literacy, treatment compliance, and quality of life were conducted and physiological and biochemical parameter of the subjects including SBP, DBP, height, waist, glucose, TC, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C were measured.Dates were analysed by SPSS13.0. The main methods of statistics were percentage, mean, t-test, X2 test,one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation.Result(1) About 39.3% Chinese elderly with hypertension were inadequate health literacy, about 8.5% were marginal health literacy and 52.2% were adequate health literacy. Individuals with inadequate health literacy were more likely to be female, more than 74 years old, have low education years, famers and housewives. The dimensions of treatment compliance sequenced from upper to lower are as follows:medicine compliance, salt intake compliance, visit compliance. The dimensions of quality of life sequenced from upper to lower are as follows: symptom bother, psychological general well-being.(2) Health literacy was affected by gender, age, education years, profession. Treatment compliance was affected by education year, disease duration, living condition,profession.Quality of life was affected by gender, age, education years, profession, abnormal blood lipid, disease duration.There is no association with BMI、WHTR.(3)Health literacy had a positive correlation with treatment compliance(r=0.371, P<0.01) and quality of life(r=0.306,P<0.01),and no correlation with symptom bother. Treatment compliance have no correlation with quality of life,but there is a significantly positive correlation with salt intake compliance(r=0.119,P<0.05).Conclusion(1) Individuals with hypertension have a medium level health literacy and treatment compliance. The degree of quality of life is much better.(2) Living conditions, education years, profession have correlation with health literacy, treatment compliance and quality of life, and there is no correlation with BMI and WHTR.(3) The higher the level of health literacy,the better the treatment compliance and quality of life,mainly improve the psychological well-being and the disease-related symptoms were decreased to a certain extent; the treatment compliance have no significantly affect on quality of life.
