Studied on agronomic traits, production performance and nutritional value of10Bothriochloa ischaemum (L.) Keng populations in Shanxi which was carried out by random complete block design in order to select a high yield and high quality Bothriochloa ischaemum population providing scientific basis for breeding a new Bothriochloa ischaemum variety, the results showed:All the10populations of Bothriochloa ischaemum could complete growth period. The populations of Ruicheng, Xiangfen, Pingding, Linfen and Fangshan had more days (146-169d) from recover to mature than that of the other populations (119-138d).The inter-/intro-populations variation on agronomic traits which were generally related was significantly different (P<0.01). There were4principal components achieving totally85.359%cumulative contribution proportion. The first and second principal components separately reflected the characters of vegetative organs and branching ability mainly, while the third and fourth principal components reflected reproductive and vegetative growth of the plant partially. Hierarchical cluster analysis got3groups, among which the first group including Yuanping, Qinyuan, Yanggao I, Fangshan and Yanggao â…¡ was the worst, the second group including Taigu, Linfen and Pingding was better than the first group, the third group including Ruicheng and Xiangfen was the best.Bothriochloa ischaemum presented an "S" growth curve in the whole growth period, slow-growing in the beginning and the end, entered the exuberant growth period between the mid-July and mid-August. In mature stage the plant height of Ruicheng (105.31cm), Linfen (103.36cm), Xiangfen (93.55cm) and Pingding (90.20cm) was higher than that of the others. The hay yield increased firstly then decreased, presenting a "single-peak" curve, and reached the peak in the heading stage. In this period, the hay yield of Ruicheng (14.42t/hm2), Linfen (14.10t/hm2), Pingding (13.32t/hm2) and Taigu (13.14t/hm2) was higher than that of Yanggao â…¡ (8.48t/hm2), Xiangfen (9.31t/hm2), Yuanping (10.54t/hm2), Fangshan (10.77t/hm2) and Qinyuan (11.16t/hm2) significantly (P<0.01).The nutritional value including CP, EE, Ca, P, and Ash was gradually decreased as the growth of different Bothriochloa ischaemum populations from the jointing stage while the content of ADF, NDF and ADL was gradually increased. The CP yield firstly increased and decreased subsequently in the growth period of different Bothriochloa ischaemum populations, and reached the peak in the heading stage. In the heading stage the CP yield of Taigu (1025.89kg/hm) was the highest among all the populations, followed by Ruicheng (978.67kg/hm2), Linfen (975.46kg/hm2) and Pingding (936.31kg/hm2).
