The newly built Shanghai-Kunming high speed railway run across Guizhou Province, where mountains are wide distribution. The area crossed by the railway line is full of mountains and river systems. The abundant underground rivers and well-developed karst increase the difficulty of railway construction. The probability of water gushing disaster is high in tunnel construction, which is easy to cause major disaster, affecting safety and progress of construction. Thus, it is very important to study the advanced forecast of geology in tunnel.In this paper, Dadushan tunnel, a typical karst tunnel, is selected to study. The engineering geological condition of Dadushan tunnel is elaborated in detail. MRS and TEM are applied in the advanced forecast of geology in Dadushan tunnel. On the base of collecting the historical documents, the research status of advanced forecast of geology at home and aboard is described in detail; the basic theory and the way of working in tunnel for MRS&TEM are described in detail. The application research of MRS&TEM forecasting water gushing disaster is developed in Dadushan tunnel, while compared with the other ways of advanced forecast of geology. In the last, all the results are compared with the excavating results. This paper mainly focuses on the following aspects:1. Briefly introduction of the main ways and ultimate rationale of advanced forecast of geology with advantages and disadvantages analysis, and introduction of the origin and development status of MRS&TEM, and the main instruments of MRS&TEM at home and abroad;2. Introduction of Dadushan tunnel engineering geological condition with detailed analysis;3. Briefly introduction of MRS&TEM basic theory and the base of applying in tunnel advanced detection, and the field work mode;4. Introduction of MRS&TEM date processing, noise interference suppression and theory and method of inversion calculation;5. Introduction of MRS&TEM working process and the research of MRS&TEM advanced forecast of geology in Dadushan tunnel, compared with the results of TRT, TSP, earth electromagnetic method, geological radar, and the excavating results, which is accurate and reliable;The area of Shanghai-Kunming high speed railway line is complicated in geology conditions, where karst is high developed. The frequently happens of water gushing disaster put forward a very high request of advanced forecast of geology. The application of MRS&TEM can determine the position and content of water gushing. Compared with the excavating results, the research shows that MRS&TEM forecast is accurate and reliable.
