In the case of the energy reducing, it has been the main concept of the architectural design that extending sustainable buildings by using renewable energy, and green environmental protection buildings which use the solar energy mainly, will be the future trends of the construction industry. Especially in the Sichuan –Tibet area, it is the optimal method to solve the contradiction between the energy shortage, economic backwardness and the rising demand of people that developing the passive solar energy building.By on-the-ground researching, in-site measurement, and computer simulation, the passive solar houses in the Sichuan –Tibet area is studied, and the reference to the design or optimization of it is put forward.Staring form the residence status, the climatic features, energy situation, and building thermal performance situation in the Sichuan –Tibet area is analyzed comprehensively firstly, with the data collection and the on-the-ground researching. In addition, two local similar passive solar house is selected to test the indoor thermal environment. It is pointed out that this kind of building in the Sichuan –Tibet area belong to the passive solar building in form, but the design has defects, the thermal performance of building envelop is poor and the overall indoor thermal environment is not ideal.Afterwards, combined with the design principle of the passive solar house, the guiding principle from the planning layout to the plane, elevation design and then to the structural design is raised. And in accordance with the <Design standard for energy efficiency of residential buildings in severe cold and cold regions>, the local practice of retaining structure is optimized. The purpose of two works above is providing design reference for the local traditional houses converting to the passive solar building. At last, three kinds of common construction mode of local house, family hotel, combination of agriculture and animal husbandry and busy street shops, are extracted. By combining the traditional concept of local residential layout, absorbing the ecological design experience of the traditional dwellings, the blind spot of design is avoided. Moreover, combined with passive solar energy technology, the residential single plane layout is optimized, and the energy saving is tested by dynamic simulating the design scheme with computer.
