Urban infrastructure, as the basic project for urban development, has long been enjoying public recognition as a guarantee of urban life and production. However, while supporting urban development, traditional infrastructure harms the environment and fails to make efficient use of urban space. In the context of the new era when China’s economy enters the New Normal, urban development also enters a phase of relative stability. City planning is shifting its focus from material, quantity and economic benefits to people’s needs and life quality with more weight accorded to sustainable development of city environment, culture and other factors. Development of urban space and its functions also changes from the previous external expansion to internal optimization. Such adjustment of development strategies poses new requirements for the development of background resources in the city, further highlighting the importance of urban infrastructure and environmental development in future urban planning.Urban green infrastructure introduces the factor of ecological environment to the traditional human-centered infrastructure and makes an integral part of modern infrastructure. The urban system featuring green infrastructure facilities can not only offer municipal services needed in future city life and production, but also support the city environment network thanks to its multiple service functions and space networking characteristics. In the long run, building and researching on this system not only helps to solve the existing urban environmental problems, but also serves as a fundamental strategy in efficiently using city space. The efforts made for such a system represent an exploration into harmonious and sustainable development between city residents and nature.’Blue Line Space’, as a representative open space in the city, is the priority implementation space choosen by this research for preliminary construction of Urban Green Infrastructure System. As of urban green infrastructure, this article concentrates on the following aspects:(1) reflecting on the inadequacies of existing urban planning approaches and strategies from the perspective of green infrastructure, and highlighting that green infrastructure development, often overlooked in past practices, is an indispensable part of comprehensive urban planning for a certain period to come. Elaborations are then made on the object of the study:the system of urban green infrastructure; (2) discussing construction of the urban green infrastructure system and pointing out that the prioritized goal is to specify the construction area for developing the system at the initial stage; (3) deciding upon’Blue Line Space’which is typical, valuable and useful to the city, as the construction area. Then studying the construction strategy and methods for the basic network of urban green infrastructure system, based on the’Blue Line Space’; (4)Giving a guide of strategy for the planning of the Chuhe Main Canal Scenery Belt, with the research results above.
