This treatise describes an air-core reactor circuit model based on partial element equivalent circuit(PEEC) method, and calculates the electromagnetic parameters of reactor. Because the number of turns in air-core reactor is huge, ordinary computer couldn’t support its operation, so we provide a method by using waveform relaxation(WR) to solve the circuit equation. This model and algorithm could be used in analysis of internal over-voltage of air-core reactor winding under lighting. However, as the coupling between the turns of winding becomes stronger, the WR algorithm either fails to converge or the number of iterations required for convergence increases. So,the overlapping partitioning waveform relaxation is used through analysis of the coupling between the turns of winding, as the result, the number of iterations reduced significantly. Based on the method, we analyze iterative efficiency of different overlap parts and the different block subsystem numbers. At the end of treatise, we demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed model and method, calculate the overvoltage distribution of a 35 k V air-core reactor. Based on the Simulink, we get the potential distribution inside reactor and voltages between turns, branches and packages.
