Axial sectional high speed permanent magnet claw pole motor is a claw pole machinewith new structure, in addition to have the advantages of permanent magnet machine, but alsohas the unique advantage of the conventional claw pole machine. Concentrated winding of themotor adopts a sectional arrangement, which makes the motor electromagnetic relation ofspace do not influence each other, beneficial to the design and control of the motor. Thedomestic and foreign research on this kind of motor is less, but mainly concentrated in themotor design, the research on control is very few. Therefore, the study of high speedpermanent magnet claw pole motor control system design becomes particularly important.This paper mainly aimed at the applied to axial air compressor’s high speed permanent magnetclaw pole motor control system design, the system eliminates the growth of gear boxes andother devices, using high speed claw pole motor direct drive. In this paper, the work includesthe following sections:Firstly, the paper describes the research status of the claw pole machine, includingvarious types of claw pole machine; and the two control methods are compared, the claw polemotor based on square wave driven by a position sensor and without position sensor; then, thebasic structure and operation principle of high speed permanent magnet claw pole motor aredescribed in detail; the final choice of control strategies suitable for high speed permanentmagnet claw pole motor back EMF sensor-less control system design.Secondly, the mathematical model of high speed permanent magnet claw pole motor isestablished, using Matlab/Simulink software to build high speed permanent magnet claw polemotor without position sensor control system simulation model. Simulation of control methodusing the speed current double closed loop control, get back EMF zero crossing through theend of the voltage detection method, and then the logic operation get inverter power switchcommutation signal. Then through simulation analysis, obtains the motor speed, current andback EMF and electromagnetic torque waveform, simulation results show that the controlsystem performance better, and provide a reliable theoretical basis for the development of thecontroller.Thirdly, the whole control system hardware design uses sensor-less specific integrateddriver IC ML4425, at the same time with the processor PIC16F877A, which makes the control system with better performance. The controller hardware circuit mainly comprises regulatedpower supply, ML4425peripheral circuit, processor peripheral circuit, three phase powerbridge and driving circuit, speed change circuit, smooth start-stop circuit, display circuit andprotection circuit. ML4425peripheral circuit is the core part of the whole control system,through the circuit can realize the startup of motor, determine the position of the rotor, speedcontrol, driving signal logic output, motor braking and current limiting protection etc. At thesame time, starting difficulty question of high speed motor were analyzed, the issue wassolved by hardware circuit design.Finally, experimental platform was built, and the whole control system for onlinedebugging, after the experimental study, obtained the experimental waveforms and theexperimental data, and to analyze the results of the experimental data.
