The process of decommissioning of nuclear facilities would lead to the formation of substantial amounts of radioactive contamination. In order to calculate the construction capacity of safety operating equipment and establish the radioactive situation map on decommissioned site, it needs to detect the radioactive substances in decommissioning of nuclear facilities’ soil and environment. The existing detection device can’t be used for remote control and its integration function was low. It requires workers to work in strong radiation environment with a variety of instruments. Their health and safety will be threatened by nuclear radiation directly. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a remote-controlled and fully function of nuclear radiation sampling and detecting systems.To solve the problems above, a vehicle-mounted monitoring system which was used for nuclear facilities emergency operation was designed. The system use radiation operating excavators as its carrier, so it can detect radioactive substances in air and soil on decommissioned site for remote monitoring. It can monitor surrounding environment in video while the excavator is working. Finally, these data will be sent to the master control site by wireless communication system. The main works were as follows:(1) The hardware design of vehicle-mounted monitoring system. There are the hardware of the four modules’ design, selection and setting for the design. These four modules include radioactive soil sampling and detection, radiological environmental monitoring, video surveillance and power supply. Finally, we must design the hardware circuit of the whole control line and connect the circuit.(2) Development of integrated software based on Lab VIEW. The function of this software include remote control of soil sampling, video surveillance for soil sampling, real-time monitoring of environmental radiation dose and video surveillance of operating environment. We can write program to achieve these functions by using VISA function module of Lab VIEW software and Active X controls.(3) Development of communication wireless network between vehicle monitoring computer and master control site. We choose wireless bridges to build the communication link of vehicle-mounted monitoring system between vehicle monitoring computer and master control site. Then, we analyze and calculate transmission bandwidth, antenna selection and erection height of the antenna respectively.(4) System debugging and analysis. The system hardware circuit and software was debugged after entire line was connected, This system runs well and meets the project requirements. Finally, we researched the reliability of wireless communications systems. The results show that theoretical value of received signal strength minus the maximum value are in the allowances value range when the site between1.5 k M and 3.5 k M. The little change in signal strength indicates that the design of wireless network is feasible.
