With the rapid development of computer technology, the informatization construction of Colleges go ahead like wildfire. All aspects of business applications emerge in an endless stream, the number of servers assumes the geometric series to grow. The data center of Colleges faces a series of challenges as follows:the rapid growth of data volume, the low utilization of servers, the management of complex systems, the lack of constructing space, the high cost of operation and maintenance, the high energy consumption and the low security of business level. To adapt to the current business development and demand, a series of major problems in colleges, like simplifying management, reducing energy consumption and improving the utilization rate, need to be solved. The development of virtualization technology provides an important way to solve this problem. With the application of virtualization technology, the problems of data center including high consumption, low utilization rate and difficulties of management, have been greatly improved. Virtualization technology has changed the traditional deployment way which the business applied independent physical server. Multiple virtual machines run multiple applications on a single physical server. That greatly improves utilization rate of the physical server in college’s data center. At the same time, the cost of operation and maintenance has been greatly reduced. Virtualization technology has changed the traditional IT infrastructure, which brought subversively unprecedented adjustment and impact. The unique advantages of virtualization technology have been generally recognized by more and more users, its popularization and promotion must be the development trend of information technology.VMware vSphere marketed by VMware crop, which is a leader of virtualization. The solution is a new generation of complete data center virtualization suite, which provides the virtual infrastructure, high availability, centralized management and monitoring, is also the most extensive suit of virtual platform in enterprise level. The use of VMware virtualization solution can effectively solve a series problems as follows:the shortage of server resources, low utilization rate of hardware resources, complex management and high cost of operating and maintenance. The paper based on the virtualization architecture of VMware vSphere, introduced the concept of virtualization, development, structure type and technical advantage. Combined the current condition and existing problems of the school, it mainly focuses on the data center of virtualization platform of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine by using VMware vSphere suite, and actively explore the virtual construction scheme suitable for school data center, and then provide a solid IT platform for the information construction of school.
