Interpreting Rumor Mongers On The Internet In The Perspective Of Communication

MicroBlog, which first appeared in America, is a platform based on theinformation sharing, dissemination and access, where users can build a personalcommunity through WEB, WAP and various clients, updating information with140words or so. During the short5or6years, since the first domestic MicroBlog Websiteappeared in2007, MicroBlog has developed rapidly until2013. Until June2013, thenumber of Chinese MicroBlog users has been up to0.331billion,However, as the MicroBlog being in full flourish, many problems popped up,such as MicroBlog rumors, pyramid selling and so on that had brought negative effectto social morality and guidance of public opinion. As pointed out in The32thStatistical Report of survey on the Chinese Internet Development Situation,MicroBlog had become the main media where network rumors were firstly exposed.Through the sampling survey on the200network rumor cases in2012made by theNew Media and Social Research Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, thestatistics stated that28percent of overall samples came from MicroBlog.As the influence of MicroBlog becoming much greater, the social effects whichare brought by the negative factors are more obvious. As for today, when the newmedia has been changing with each passing day, beyond people’s imagination, therumors can be virally scattered to every corner of the world in the shortest timethrough network media rumors.In August2013,Qin Zhihui whose net name is Qin Huohuo and Yang Xiuyuwhose net name is Li Er Chai Si underwent penal servitude because of picking aquarrel and making trouble and crime of illegal business. After being imprisoned,many explosive news that once caused quite a stir were proved to be rumors started bythe two people, such as the Italian traveler who died in the “Motor Car Crash on23rdJuly” being paid30million Euros, the image of Lei Feng being made by country, theassistant of Disabled Person’s Federation Zhang Haidi is Japanese nationality. Therumor that Li Tianyi is not Li Shuangjiang’s own child made a stir on internet andbecame the center that was focused by whole society. Therefore, the problem ofrumors on MicroBlog needs to be solved.To explore the phenomenon of false information dissemination by internetmongers represented by Qin Huohuo, the rumor on MicroBlog refers to falseinformation propagated on the internet platform of MicroBlog.This thesis is composed of five parts. Part one focuses on defining concept of theobject of study and briefly introduces the study status quo of the topic. Part two, thefirst chapter of the thesis, mainly explains the phenomenon of rumors on MicroBlogand introduces the identity of rumor disseminators and analyzes the characteristics ofMicroBlog rumor. Part three is a keynote chapter and it explores the propagationmode of MicroBlog rumor in the perspective of communication. Combined with thefeatures of MicroBlog platform, it deeply analyzes every link of informationdissemination, such as source of rumor’s appearance, propagation medium, identity ofrumor mongers, social effect of rumor spreading, information feedback of rumor receivers and so on. In Part four, the analysis on social effect and influence onmedium credibility brought by spreading of MicroBlog rumor is focused. The last part,as chapter four, explores how to specify MicroBlog platform and purify networkenvironment. The deep analysis will be made from three aspects: government,MicroBlog operators and net citizens. Besides, the suggestions will be provided, in thehope that it can provide reference for the healthy development of network platform ofMicroBlog.The development history of MicroBlog is short in our country and currently theresearch made by many experts and scholars is still in the period of exploration, so thestudy on MicroBlog and MicroBlog rumor is lack of theoretical materials forreference. This thesis, in the perspective of MicroBlog rumor mongers, aims atanalyzing every link of information dissemination layer by layer and a thoroughanalysis on cases. Due to the limited professional level and researching ability, it isthe writer’s hope that this thesis can help to add some support to other researchers’study and provide reference for them.
