With the rapid development of the display technology and display device, while the consumers pursue image resolution, their requirements for display device’s color performance are increasing day by day, because they want to see the video image more colorful, more lifelike. Therefore, the research of display color characteristic and the development of wide color gamut video equipment have become a hot topic.This paper aims to test and evaluate the color reproduction characteristics of the display scientifically and objectively, analyses the effect which the display’s working parameters make on color properties, it provides technical support for the research of broadening the display’s reproduction gamut. This paper mainly works in three aspects:Firstly, develops the test data set and designs the color test card using for measuring. Secondly, measures and analyses the parameters which have effect on color reduction characteristic of display, such as color temperature, backlight, etc. Thirdly, builds the three-dimensional color gamut in theory, calculates the value of color gamut volume and establishes the evaluation system for the three-dimensional color gamut, etc.Through analyzing the physical meaning of the biggest color gamut of display, combining with the mixed color principle of three primary colors, this paper splits three primary signals averagely and gets877test color points. The experiments show that the test data of these color points can be used to establish the three-dimensional color gamut. At the same time, the paper generates the test cards which are matched with test data by using Matlab.After doing many repeatability experiments to multiple display parameters of the different kinds, different types, different manufacturers display, a complete research data is got. Then using the two-dimensional and three-dimensional color domain model as the object, the effects which the display parameters made on display color performance are analysed.In order to reduce the workload of display measurement, this paper only uses the measurement data of three primary colors’ coordinate and some simple analyses, sets up the three-dimensional color gamut of display in theory. After comparing with the three-dimensional color gamut built by actual measurement data, the theoretic three-dimensional color gamut are consistent with the actual measurement color gamut, conforms to the practical work requirements of display detection mechanism. At the same time, it also reduces the calculation complexity of three-dimensional color gamut’s volume, this has a high application value for display’s chromaticity detection work.At last, this paper calculates the measured and theoretical volume of three-dimensional color gamut model, makes the cobr gamut volume as a parameters to measure the size of the color gamut, and defines the concept of target color gamut achieve rate and the color gamut efficiency, establishes a more objective comprehensive evaluation system for display’s color performance. The establishment of the system has strong practicability in the field of display test evaluation and has a positive reference significance for realizing the color gamut mapping between the different systems.
