In recent years, wide color gamut display equipments have enjoyed constant innovation, in the LED display, laser has become a new display equipment representatives. Compared with the traditional display device, wide color gamut display equipment have many advantages. It have a very big promotion in the color gamut coverage. Compared with the general under the PAL color gamut coverage, laser display device gamut coverage can increase1.9times. But due to the wide color gamut display devices adopted different primary colors, color signal transmission between different color gamut standard equipment, may lead to color distortion and the presence of the color difference. In order to solve this problem, color gamut mapping and color space conversion become the indispensable step of color transfer. In addition, for the adoption of traditional standard display color gamut of the equipment, in order to make full use of wide color gamut display’s characteristics of high saturation and high brightness, we must extend the color of image and video signal.This essay aim at wide color gamut color equipment, mainly study the stretching problems in the mapping from traditional color gamut to wide color gamut. We first introduced the basic theory of color science, and then described the color gamut mapping theory, which include color measurement, color space conversion, color gamut boundary determination, color gamut mapping and the basic research methods. Then we proposed an algorithm based on natural elasticity and an color gamut extension evaluation standard called vividness. In addition this essay also studied the four primary display technology, puts forward the four primary color under the domain extension and color representation.Specific to wide color gamut display devices, this paper puts forward the algorithm based on natural elasticity for gamut extension. First we analyzed the tensile characteristics of non-uniform shape spring, namely tensile distance will change with the spring shape. Then we utilize this characteristics in the color gamut extension, with white dots as the spring beginning, color gamut boundary points as the spring end, the stretching can be adopted in different measures. Meanwhile, we can adjust spring shape according to a different color so as to achieve different stretching effect. This method is applied In RGB space, so it have the advantages of easily operation and simple calculation by hardware. Compared with traditional color gamut extension algorithm, the effect has been increased significantly. In addition, this essay also combined two color gamut extension evaluation parameters of naturalness and colorfulness and using the least squares method puts forward a new color gamut extension evaluation criterion, namely the vividness. This criterion take the degree of colorful and fitness with human visual characteristic into account and has a certain reference value. At the end this essay researched on the multi-primary color display system and proposed a gamut extension method for four-primary color laser TV.
