Traditional airborne radar clutter simulation regard the terrain within the beam asuniform scene, the simulation data cannot reflect dynamic topography and non-uniformproperties of the airborne radar working circumstance. In this paper, a real digital map isused for radar clutter simulation, focus on the study of the real ground scenes scatteringcoefficient map calculation. Calculate the scattering units backscattering coefficient fornon-uniform clutter simulation according to the real scene topography type, simulationdata can reflect radar ups and downs of the real ground environment. The simulationdata can better evaluate radar performance in a specific scenario and sequentiallyprovide a more accurate clutter data. The main content and work are summarized asfollows:1. For the influence of the ups and downs of real scene to the terrain scattering unitdivision, grazing angle, and whether the scattering unit is visible to the plane, derive thegrazing angle calculation method, based on digital elevation model (DEM). The methodcan quickly get all terrain scattering units’ grazing angle through matrix operation. Givethe shield processing method, digital elevation model (DEM) data masking determinedby scanning way and based on digital elevation model (DEM) data structurecharacteristics, to ensure that all the terrain units in all directions are done the shieldprocessing.2. For the problem of large amount of digital elevation model (DEM) data andslow calculate speed, give the matrix operation extraction method of slope and otherterrain factors, can quickly and effectively extract the terrain information included in theDEM data. Consider the landform types used in clutter simulation, combined with thedescription of the terrain factors on the characteristics of landform types, proposelandform types classified method, based on digital elevation model (DEM), Theclassification method can get real terrain landforms automatically. Since we get grazingangle and the corresponding landform type, combine with the scattering coefficientmodel we can get more accurate ground scattering coefficient map of the real scene, scattering coefficient map reflects the scattering characteristics of the different types oftopography and the ups and downs of the terrain affect the scattering coefficient.3. Give the clutter simulator design method and introduce the structure andfunction of the main units. Airborne PD Radar on terrestrial scene and at the junction ofland and sea scene is given based on the digital elevation model (DEM) data todetermine the ground scene clutter simulation results, the results are analyzed withstatistical model-based clutter simulation results contrast, to verify the correctness of theproposed method. The clutter model based on digital elevation model (DEM) hasunique non-uniformity characteristics, which is different from the traditional cluttermodel, it has a greater value in the high-precision radar system simulation.
