The Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna plays an important role in UWB system. As acrucial component of the UWB system, the UWB antenna affects performance of thesystem significantly. UWB antennas have the advantages of low profile, low powerconsumption and integration easily, so it is widely used in communication systems. TheFederal Communication Commission (FCC) authorized the unlicensed use of the UWB(3.1GHz~10.6GHz) in February2002.First of all, we briefly introduce the definition of UWB technology, and thenretrospect the history of the development of UWB antennas. Secondly, we discuss afew numerical methods that are used in the design process of the ultra-widebandantennas, and then we talk about the software used in simulating antennas, some basicdesign parameters are also mentioned. Finally, we discuss working principles and basicstructures of the ultra-wideband monopole antennas. In order to inhibit interferencebetween the UWB communication systems and the existing WLANsystems(5.2GHz~5.8GHz) as well as WiMAX systems(3.3GHz~3.7GHz), we presenttwo dual band-notched UWB antennas. The first proposed ultra-wideband antenna ismicrostrip fed. We get a better VSWR by adjusting its slots and structure of themicrostrip. The second proposed antenna is coplanar waveguide(CPW) fed. Theantenna is optimized by adding a rectangle patch at right size.In the last part, we conclude the thesis and make several suggestions for the futurework.
